<span style="font-family: inherit;">Proving that the government moves at a snail's pace, the EPA finally released the volume requirements under the Renewable Fuel Standard for 2014, 2015 and 2016. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">That's right, they finally got around to 2014.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Better late than never.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">While higher than the initial numbers proposed earlier, they still fall short of the Congressional mandate.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Predictably, the <a href="http://www.api.org/News-and-Media/News/NewsItems/2015/November-2015/Gerard-EPA-must-do-more-to-protect-consumers-from-high-ethanol-mandates" target="_blank">American Petroleum Institute (API) </a>complained that the numbers are too high.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><i>"<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px;">EPA must do more to ensure Americans have access to fuels they want and can safely use in their vehicles until Congress can repeal or significantly reform the outdated Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), API President and CEO Jack Gerard said following </span>EPA’s release<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px;"> of the 2014, 2015, and 2016 RFS mandates Monday."</span></i> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">API's message: We need to drill more. Frack more. And buy more foreign oil</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Supporters of American grown biofuels were disappointed in the EPA's decision as well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://ethanol.org/news/news/2015/11/30/epa-rfs-rule-protects-those-who-say-no-we-cant/" target="_blank"><span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;"><b>American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE)</b></span></a><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 25.6px;"><i><span style="font-family: inherit;">“While we appreciate that the Administration made incremental improvements compared to the proposed RFS rule, unfortunately, today they are choosing to side with those who say ‘no, we can’t’. Regrettably, EPA’s final RFS rule protects the old way of doing business by obstructing consumer access to cleaner fuels, stifling competition in the marketplace, and undermining innovation. </span></i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<a href="http://www.ethanolrfa.org/2015/11/rfa-epas-final-rfs-rule-puts-future-of-biofuels-climate-policy-in-hands-of-oil-industry/" target="_blank"><span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;"><b>Renewable Fuels Association (RFA)</b></span></a><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px;"><i><span style="font-family: inherit;">“EPA’s decision today turns our nation’s most successful energy policy on its head. When EPA released its proposed RFS rule in May, the agency claimed it was attempting to get the program back on track. Today’s decision, however, fails to do that. It will deepen uncertainty in the marketplace and thus chill investment in second-generation biofuels. Unlike Big Oil, the ethanol industry does not receive billions in tax subsidies and the RFS is our only means of accessing a marketplace that is overwhelmingly and unfairly dominated by the petroleum industry."</span></i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<a href="http://www.ncga.com/news-and-resources/news-stories/article/2015/11/epas-final-rule-a-step-forward-for-ethanol" target="_blank"><span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;"><b>National Corn Growers Association (NCGA)</b></span></a><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="p1" style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255); border: 0px; line-height: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span class="s1" style="background: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><i><span style="font-family: inherit;">“While we are pleased to see the EPA take a step forward and revise its original proposal, the fact remains that any reduction in the statutory amount will have a negative impact on our economy, our energy security, and the environment. It is unfortunate that Big Oil’s campaign of misinformation continues to carry weight in the court of public opinion, and in this decision."</span></i></span></div>
<div class="p1" style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255); border: 0px; line-height: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">So the US has a crippled biofuels policy. "We support it, but not really."</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">That's no way to run a country.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;">The Obama administration, through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), <a href="http://www.epa.gov/otaq/fuels/renewablefuels/documents/rfs-2014-2016-standards-nprm.pdf" target="_blank">proposed </a>lowering the amount of ethanol blended into the nation's fuel supply.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Score a win for Big Oil. And a loss for American consumers.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">In its proposal, the EPA set new lower limits despite the intent of Congress when it passed the Renewable Fuel Standard in 2007.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The EPA proposed that refiners blend just 17.4 billion gallons of renewable fuels in 2016. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">That figure is well below the 22.3 billion gallon amount set by Congress.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Not surprisingly, the American Petroleum Institute wasn't happy with the new lower amounts. It wants even less cleaner burning ethanol competing against gasoline. In it's <a href="http://www.americanpetroleuminstitute.com/news-and-media/news/newsitems/2015/may-2015/epa-must-do-more-to-protect-consumers-until-congress-can-repeal-the-rfs" target="_blank">statement</a>, API President and CEO Jack Gerard called for just 9.7% of the nations fuel be ethanol. And it's no surprise that they want the RFS legislation re-opened and even repealed altogether.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Isn't that nice. Less American-made ethanol and more foreign oil.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Ethanol groups weren't too pleased either with the lower amount. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">In it's <a href="http://www.ethanolrfa.org/news/entry/epas-rvo-decision-is-not-what-the-statute-intended-not-in-the-best-interest/" target="_blank">statement</a> the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) stated:</span><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="background-color: white;"><i><span style="font-family: inherit;">“Today’s announcement represents a step backward for the RFS. EPA successfully enforced a 13.8 billion gallon RVO in 2013. The industry produced 14.3 billion gallons of ethanol last year. There is no reason to promulgate an RVO rule that takes us backward. All it will do is result in an ever-increasing supply of renewable fuel credits (RINs) that will further discourage private sector investment in infrastructure and technology. This doesn’t make sense."</span></i></span></blockquote>

<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><i><span style="background-color: white;">“It is unfortunate that EPA chose to side with the obligated parties who have deliberately refused to live up to their obligation to provide consumers with a choice of fossil fuels or lower cost, higher performing, homegrown renewable energy at the pump...</span></i> </span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">These pumps are often called "blender pumps" and can be used to dispense fuel up to 85% ethanol for vehicles designed to use flex fuels.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The goal is to increase the amount of ethanol available to motorists by building the infrastructure of available pumps.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">According to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsak:</span><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-top: 15px;">
<span style="line-height: normal;"><i><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">"USDA is helping to ensure the infrastructure is in place for consumers to access more renewable fuels, expand marketing opportunities for farmers, and grow America's rural economies."</span></i></span></blockquote>
<div style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-top: 15px;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The announcement also mentioned that the goal of the program is to double the amount of pumps capable of supplying higher blends.</span></div>

Specifically, he responded to the myths from the chain restaurants and chicken producers regarding cleaner burning, American-made renewable fuels.<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8m8X36vV9ws" width="560"></iframe>
<br />
Here are a few key points the senator made:<br />
<br />
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>"I’m going to take this opportunity to do a simple fact check of some of the most egregious claims.</i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>First, they claim that since 2005, when the Renewable Fuel Standard was first adopted, costs of vital food commodities, including corn, grains and oilseeds, poultry, meat, eggs and dairy have risen dramatically. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>This is pure myth.</i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>The fact is, consumer food prices have increased by an annual average of 2.68 percent since 2005. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>In contrast, food prices increased by an average of 3.47 percent in the 25 years leading up to passage of the RFS. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>Prices for chicken breast have been nearly flat over the past seven years, averaging $3.43 per pound in 2007, and just 3 pennies more, to $3.46 per pound in 2014. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>Corn prices are expected to average $3.50 per bushel this year, according to USDA. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>This would be the lowest price in nearly 10 years, and 17 percent below the average price of $4.20 a bushel in 2007, when the RFS2 was enacted. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>That’s a fact: with ethanol production at record levels today, corn prices are lower now than they were in 2007.</i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>It’s been proven time and again by the EPA, USDA and others – there is no correlation between corn prices or ethanol production and retail food inflation or food prices. It’s just a fact.</i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>Second, they claim that as a result of the RFS, corn is being “diverted” from livestock feed to ethanol. Again, this claim is false.</i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>Corn used for ethanol has come from the significant increases in corn production since 2005. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>In 2005, American farmers produced 11.1 billion bushels of corn. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>In 2014, they produced 14.1 billion bushels. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>And, one-third of the corn used for ethanol production is returned to the market as animal feed. The amount of corn and corn co-products available for feed use is larger today than any time in history. </i></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: 18.2000007629395px; margin-bottom: 0.7em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><i>So, it’s hardly being diverted."</i></span></div>

And it's an important part of NASCAR's Green program.<br />
<br />
Since 2011, NASCAR has been using E15 ethanol, made from corn grown in America that has reduced racetrack greenhouse emissions by 20% while increasing horsepower.<br />
<br />
And recently, NASCAR raced more than 7 million competitive miles of facing action using E15 in all NASCAR vehicles.<br />

Farmland, a feature-length documentary by Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Moll, is now streaming on NetFlix.<br />
<br />
Every American has a reason to watch this movie. Every American <u>should</u> watch this movie.<br />
<br />
Though 24-hour cable news, social media and even a talk-show doctor, the constant chatter is negative. <br />
<br />
To hear the activists tell it, our food supply is poisoned by greedy, corporate bad guys. <br />
<br />
But that is far from the case.<br />
<br />
Most Americans have never met or had a real conversation with a rancher or farmer.<br />
<br />
The film presents an honest look at the lives of the hard-working men and women who grow and raise our food.<br />
<br />
Check it out via <a href="https://www.netflix.com/us/" target="_blank">NetFlix </a>and DVD.<br />

Kum and Go (@kumandgo) announced today they will begin offering E15 as a fuel option at over 65 stations, across 7 states over the next two years. The first station will be in Windsor Heights, Iowa and will open on April 30.<br />
<br />
This is a tremendous step forward to bring the cleaner burning, higher performing, American-made fuel to consumers.<br />
<br />
E15 is a blend of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline and is a cleaner and higher-octane fuel. The EPA has approved E15 for cars manufactured since 2001.<br />
<br />
According to the company:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“We have a strong tradition in our company to implement sustainability within our business and at our locations. From our 100 LEED-certified stores, to our selection of alternative fuels, E15 was a natural addition to our fuel offering,” said Jim Pirolli, Vice President of Fuels, Kum & Go. “Having E15 in our portfolio allows Kum & Go to offer our customers a quality product at a great value.” </blockquote>

An interesting article in <a href="http://www.rollcall.com/news/white_house_deal_with_carlyle_group_confuses_obamas_commitment_to_fighting-233516-1.html#disqus_thread">Roll Call</a> this week has an interesting explanation for the Obama administration recent decision to gut the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS). <br />
<br />
While the left hand of President Obama is crushing the coal-power industry, the right hand is helping Big Oil.<br />
<br />
And who is that right hand?<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i>Who could be responsible for such a conundrum? Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., it turns out. According to a Reuters article published in mid-May, the events that lead to the RFS mandates reduction began when the Carlyle Group, the powerful Washington, D.C.-based private equity firm, became concerned about the profitability of two oil refineries it owns in Philadelphia. Lower RFS mandates would help Carlyle’s bottom line

Just follow the money.<br />

Useful info from OilRigged.com concerning how the Big Oil companies rig the system to ensure they control the fuel system in America.<br />
<h1 style="box-sizing: border-box; color: #c1272d; font-family: Oswald, sans-serif; font-size: 40px; font-weight: 400; margin: 30px 0px;">
Oil Rigging</h1>
<h2 style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: Montserrat, sans-serif; font-size: 24px; font-weight: 400; line-height: 36px; margin: 30px 0px 12px; text-transform: uppercase;">
SEVEN WAYS BIG OIL RIGS THE SYSTEM</h2>
<ol style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: 'Droid Sans', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 23px; margin: 20px 0px 5px 23px; padding-left: 0px;">
<li style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 15px;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Rigging Congress</span>: In the last five years, the oil industry has spent over $885 million on <a href="https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/lobbying.php?cycle=2014&ind=E01" style="background-position: 0px 0px; background-repeat: initial initial; box-sizing: border-box; color: #c1272d;">lobbyists</a> and <a href="https://www.opensecrets.org/industries/contrib.php?cycle=2014&ind=E01" style="background-position: 0px 0px; background-repeat: initial initial; box-sizing: border-box; color: #c1272d;">campaign contributions</a> to buy influence on Capitol Hill. That’s more than $1 million for every Member of Congress.</li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 15px;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Rigging the Market: </span>Big oil has a near-total monopoly on the marketplace — so when oil prices go up, you get gouged. Because oil companies want to protect that monopoly at all cost, they’ve taken aim at the commonsense, bipartisan renewable fuel standard — demanding that the EPA effectively cut the amount of renewable fuel in gasoline and raise the oil content. That would increase their profits, cost consumers more at the pump, and increase our dependence on foreign oil.</li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 15px;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Rigging the Tax Code: </span>For <a href="http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2013/03/01/1654501/oil-subsidies-century/" style="background-position: 0px 0px; background-repeat: initial initial; box-sizing: border-box; color: #c1272d;">over 100 years</a> (!), oil companies have held onto sweetheart tax breaks — supercharging Big Oil’s profits with hard-earned wages from American families.</li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 15px;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Rigging the Fuel Supply: </span>Oil companies made $100 billion in profits last year, but have refused to pay for infrastructure to sell more renewable fuels in spite of a law requiring them to do so. Now the companies want the government to excuse them from selling more renewable fuels due to a lack of infrastructure … a bottleneck they deliberately created in order to protect their monopoly on the marketplace.</li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 15px;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Rigging Studies: </span>The oil companies like to quote a study that said ethanol damages engine valves. Who paid for the study? The oil companies. How did they rig the study? By pre-selecting cars with known valve defects.<a href="http://energy.gov/articles/getting-it-right-accurate-testing-and-assessments-critical-deploying-next-generation-auto" style="background-position: 0px 0px; background-repeat: initial initial; box-sizing: border-box; color: #c1272d;">Come on, guys.</a> Remember when tobacco industry studies found that smoking wasn’t harmful?</li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 15px;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Rigging the Debate: </span>Big Oil companies have spent millions on slick advertisements attacking clean, American-made renewable fuel. What don’t the ads say? That fuels like ethanol are higher octane — making them<i style="box-sizing: border-box;">better </i>for your engine — higher performance, cleaner burning, and cost less money than regular gasoline.</li>
<li style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-bottom: 15px;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;">Rigging the Airwaves: </span>Where is the “American” Petroleum Institute getting all this money to attack our homegrown renewable fuels? Hint – <a href="http://www.thenation.com/article/169639/never-mind-super-pacs-how-big-business-buying-election" style="background-position: 0px 0px; background-repeat: initial initial; box-sizing: border-box; color: #c1272d;">API isn’t quite as “American” as the name would suggest</a>.</li>
</ol>

<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700;"><span style="box-sizing: border-box; text-decoration: underline;">Get the facts. Don’t get oil rigged. </span></span></div>

<br />
The truth is that biofuels are cleaner, better for your engine, and less expensive.

An interesting Open letter to Big Oil from RFA and Growth Energy...</div>

<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Isn't life ironic?</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Despite the millions of dollars your industry has spent on bogus TV ads, there hasn't been a single reported case of engine damage from ethanol blended fuels like E15. But last week, <a href="http://www.wafb.com/story/25104289/exxonmobile-acknowledging-its-gas-is-to-blame" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">Exxon admitted</a> selling customers in Louisiana more than 5 million gallons of oil-based gasoline that was so bad that it’s been stopping cars dead in their tracks. In fact, one auto shop reported 40 or 50 customers who had trouble starting their engines as a result of Exxon’s contaminated gas. That's <a href="http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/03/28/4024268/strain-exxons-bad-fuel-totals.html" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">40 or 50 more cases</a> of engine problems than have been reported in the entire country from E15, and that's just one shop in Baton Rouge!</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Maybe the oil industry should quickly rig another study – like the study the oil companies cooked up to show engine valve damage from E15 by <a href="http://energy.gov/articles/getting-it-right-accurate-testing-and-assessments-critical-deploying-next-generation-auto" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">pre-selecting engine types already known to have engine valve problems.</a> That was a good one, Jack. Too bad scientists from America's national laboratories, the U.S. Department of Energy and the EPA did a real study and <a href="http://energy.gov/articles/getting-it-right-accurate-testing-and-assessments-critical-deploying-next-generation-auto" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">found no evidence of engine damage from E15 whatsoever</a>.</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">As if selling tainted gas to thousands of unsuspecting drivers wasn’t bad enough, then you had another embarrassing oil spill by one of your member companies in the Houston shipping channel. Isn’t that funny? While your ads are misleading people about the impact of ethanol on marine engines, <a href="http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Spill-comes-at-worst-time-for-wildlife-in-5342986.php" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">boats in Houston</a> are in dry dock because of your oil spill! In fact, that one company has been fined for <a href="http://www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2014/03/houston_ship_channel_reopens_a.html" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">77 different oil spills since 2008</a>, which means they have averaged more than one oil spill per month for the last six years. That’s a lot of boaters impacted by oil spills, Jack.</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">And poor Exxon! They had to <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/24/us-usa-oil-spill-idUSBREA2M01H20140324" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">cut production</a> at their largest refinery because the oil spill blocked their access to more foreign oil. We’re so sad to hear that Exxon was inconvenienced by the actions of a <a href="http://articles.latimes.com/1989-03-31/news/mn-704_1_exxon-valdez" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">sea captain</a> who spilled his oil, creating a huge environmental disaster…</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">Then there was BP’s oil spill in Lake Michigan last week, which turned out to be <a href="http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-lake-michigan-bp-oil-spill-20140328,0,3358362.story#axzz2xVHOlVGo" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">much larger than BP executives first admitted</a>. BP lowballing the size of an oil spill? Knock us over with a <a href="http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/video/oilspill101/feathers-oil.html" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">feather</a>!</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">You know what else is ironic, Jack?</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">How about running ads claiming ethanol is bad for the environment in the same week when you just <a href="http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/03/28/4025058/wildlife-rescue-ongoing-in-ohio.html" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">spilled 20,000 gallons </a>of crude oil into an Ohio nature preserve? Or claiming that ethanol – a clean, renewable fuel – consumes too much land, when current and future tar sands operations will destroy an area the <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-oil-sands-of-alberta/" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">size of Florida</a>? Were you aware, Jack, that the Deepwater Horizon spill polluted an area of the Gulf the <a href="http://blog.skytruth.org/2010/07/bp-gulf-oil-spill-68000-square-miles-of.html" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">size of Oklahoma</a>?</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">We can go on ... how about the fact that current U.S. crude oil pipelines threaten an <a href="http://www.rita.dot.gov/bts/sites/rita.dot.gov.bts/files/publications/national_transportation_statistics/html/table_01_10.html" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">area the size of Rhode Island</a> with spills just like the one last week in Ohio. The Exxon Valdez spill impacted an <a href="http://www.wired.com/2009/03/valdezlegacy/" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">area the size of Massachusetts</a>. The Persian Gulf spill in 1991 affected an <a href="http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=860&dat=19830406&id=F4BUAAAAIBAJ&sjid=LY8DAAAAIBAJ&pg=6775,525404" style="color: #96d063; outline: none;">area the size of Maryland</a>. Do you get the point?</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">You see, Jack, the real environmental peril is oil, not renewable fuels like ethanol.</span></div>
<div style="color: #22251c; font-family: proxima-nova, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px;">

We don’t have a dog in the fracking fight, but wouldn’t it be great if there was a clean, renewable fuel that was better for our cars, cheaper, and didn't need to be fracked? Hmmmm....</span></div>

<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i>For 2014, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed a 1.4 billion gallon reduction in how much corn ethanol will be required under the Renewable Fuel Standard, the federal law that helps get domestic, renewable, cleaner-burning corn ethanol blended in the nation’s fuel supply. This will reduce already-low corn prices and negatively affect planting decisions in 2014.<br />
<br />We need your help today. The EPA is accepting comments on the proposal until 11:59 p.m. EST January 28, 2014. Please use the links below to send a response and tell the EPA it needs to maintain the RFS for corn ethanol at 14.4 billion gallons. Your comment will be public and discoverable on the Internet. Please click on one of the links below and take five minutes to send a brief response directly to the EPA.</i> </blockquote>

The EPA's recent decision to drastically reduce the amount of renewable fuels needs to be overturned.<br />
<br />
Renewable fuels like ethanol are cleaner burning, perform better and reduce costs. And it helps to reduce the foreign oil we purchase.<br />
<br />
Tell the EPA that their new proposed rule is a bad, bad idea. Every comment counts. You can bet the oil companies will be sending their dirty, oil-covered comments too.<br />
<br />
FuelsAmerica has an <a href="http://www.fuelsamerica.org/page/s/take-a-stand-for-lower-gas-prices">online form</a> to allow you to send your comments to the EPA.<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
The Obama Administration is proposing to drastically reduce the amount of renewable fuel blended into the nation’s gas supply next year. This draft plan would raise gas prices and undermine the growing American industry that is helping to move us off oil.
Reducing the amount of renewable fuel in our gas means replacing it with oil. Since renewable fuel is cheaper than petroleum, this proposal would cost American drivers more than $7 billion in higher gas prices. It would also give a huge handout to the oil companies, more than $10 billion in new profits.
President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) need to know that you oppose plans to use less clean fuel. Please leave a comment below to make your voice heard, and we will send them to the EPA. America can't afford to spend more at the pump. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
To help you write your comment, we've shared some suggested language you can use, or you can write in some of your own messaging in support of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS):
Recent analyses have shown that cutting renewable fuel use will hand over $10 billion to the oil companies – that’s money out of everyday Americans pockets.
If this proposal goes through, American jobs are at risk, and we will lose the chance to attract new companies and investments to the U.S.
It’s not just gas prices and jobs that have me worried. Oil is bad for the environment. Using more oil – and less clean renewable fuel – will increase pollution. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
Help keep access to cleaner, cheaper fuel that is good for our economy and our environment.</blockquote>

<i>Washington, D.C. bureaucrats at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under the stranglehold of big oil, have issued a ruling hoping to slash the amount of renewable fuel in America’s energy portfolio. Not only will this terrible decision from the federal government increase America’s dependence on foreign oil, it will also hurt American families by decreasing the value of commodities, increasing prices at the pump, eliminating thousands of jobs and sink the price of corn below the cost of production. </i><br />

In a win for big international oil companies, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its <a href="http://yosemite.epa.gov/opa/admpress.nsf/0c0affede4f840bc8525781f00436213/81c99e6d27c730c485257c24005eecb0!OpenDocument">proposal </a>for the 2014 Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) as required by the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) for the amount of renewable fuels to be blended into gasoline and diesel in the coming year.<br />
<br />
More dirty oil. Less clean American-grown ethanol.<br />
<br />
Big Oil must be dancing in the streets.<br />
<br />
The EPA proposes to set the cellulosic biofuel category at 17 million gallons, biomass-based diesel at 1.28 billion gallons, advanced biofuel at 2.20 billion gallons and renewable fuel at 15.21 billion.<br />
<br />
The proposed rule caps corn-based (or conventional) ethanol at 13.01 billion gallons. <br />
<br />
But the deal's not done yet. <br />
<br />
The proposal still requires input from the public after the proposed rule is published in the federal register.<br />

We'll share how you can comment when we know the details.<br />

<span style="text-align: center;">NASCAR announced today that it surpassed more that five million competition miles across its three national series on Sunoco Green E15, a biofuel blended with 15 percent American Ethanol made from American-grown corn.</span><br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
The five million miles have been accumulated across practice, qualifying and racing laps dating to 2011 when the biofuel was introduced to the sport.<br />
<br />
This is a resounding endorsement of the performance fuel. It is a performance fuel that easily handles the NASCAR racing conditions.<br />
<br />
And if it's good for NASCAR, it's good for all American drivers.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjarf0hkbAOLC_uGI_TElKBXelGo9JmaG3bitkqD37zkf6NHcxiXuoOjzeIzFxD-ixMhJtaWbsAuzYV-azL3yTS_d6SqemZKdctJArX85OBZ4dL6_y046CuDTNzuuwhdx5wIwkLVXFEGJQ/s1600/Associated+Press.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjarf0hkbAOLC_uGI_TElKBXelGo9JmaG3bitkqD37zkf6NHcxiXuoOjzeIzFxD-ixMhJtaWbsAuzYV-azL3yTS_d6SqemZKdctJArX85OBZ4dL6_y046CuDTNzuuwhdx5wIwkLVXFEGJQ/s200/Associated+Press.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
In a widely published article today, <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/12/ethanol-investigation_n_4258796.html">The Secret, Dirty Cost of Obama's Green Power Push</a>, by the Associated Press (AP), reporters Dina Cappiellow and Matt Apuzzo lay out their views on the shortcomings of ethanol<br />
<br />
In their article, they claim that the production of ethanol is responsible for a vast American wasteland:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Georgia, Century, Times, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px;"><i>"The hills of southern Iowa bear the scars of America's push for green energy: The brown gashes where rain has washed away the soil. The polluted streams that dump fertilizer into the water supply."</i></span></blockquote>
<br />
The reporters list everything they see wrong with ethanol: spoiled lands, polluted water and damaged environmental habitat.<br />
<br />
But the real problem is with the article itself. It appears to be junk journalism, filled with inaccurate and wild accusations. It's less about accurate reporting and more about extreme environmentalists getting a lot of free ink. Facts be damned.<br />
<br />
For example, the article claims that millions of acres of conservation land has been destroyed in the rush to plant corn for ethanol. But the total number of acres were reduced by other legislation, not ethanol production. <br />
<br />
The reporters also claim that corn prices have been near $7 per bushel for all of this year. But that's just not true.<br />
<br />
And the big one, the reporter claim that ethanol is the number one use of corn surpassing animal feed. But the reporters conveniently omit that the numbers are not the whole picture. Through the ethanol production process, 1/3 of the corn is returned to the animal feed market as Dried Distillers Grains (DDGs), a highly desired animal feed product for it's protein and mineral value.<br />
<br />
The list of falsehoods in the article are just long to post here, so here's a summary from others so you can fact check the article:<br />

You may remember that we <a href="http://www.foodandfuelamerica.com/2013/02/super-bowl-chicken-crap.html">alerted </a>you earlier this year to the National Chicken Council's chicken-crap filled press release blaming higher chicken wing prices on the back of ethanol.<br />
<br />
They conveniently ignored higher energy, marketing and profit costs.<br />
<br />
They distorted the actual use of ethanol to slant their story.<br />
<br />
And they timed their clucky release to scare consumers buying chicken wings for the Super Bowl. <br />
<br />
That's a crappy thing to do.<br />
<br />
It was a chicken crap story then and remains so today.<br />
<br />
But new revelations show that there was another major reason for higher chicken costs this year.<br />
<br />
Apparently, McDonald's has been hording chicken for their new national release of chicken wings.<br />
<br />
According to this report in <a href="http://theweek.com/article/index/248959">The Week</a>,<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: jaf-facitweb; font-size: 14px; letter-spacing: -0.699999988079071px; line-height: 24px;">To prepare for the tsunami of chicken wings, McDonald's has probably been stockpiling them for 18 months, analyst </span><span class="s1" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #222222; font-family: jaf-facitweb; font-size: 14px; letter-spacing: -0.699999988079071px; line-height: 24px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Nick Setyan</span><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: jaf-facitweb; font-size: 14px; letter-spacing: -0.699999988079071px; line-height: 24px;"> told Vanessa Wong at </span><em style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Bloomberg Businessweek</em><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: jaf-facitweb; font-size: 14px; letter-spacing: -0.699999988079071px; line-height: 24px;">.</span></blockquote>
The national roll out of chicken wings at McDonald's is expected to be a winner with over 250 million wings sold in the first few weeks alone.<br />
<br />
That demand, bundled with skyrocketing fuel costs, can explain the higher costs.<br />
<br />

Senator Chuck Grassley has <a href="http://www.grassley.senate.gov/news/Article.cfm?customel_dataPageID_1502=46734">defended </a>the Renewable Fuel Standard to make the case that biofuels have succeeded in environmental, economic and national security gains.<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i></i><i>"During the past 30 years, we’ve witnessed tremendous growth in the renewable biofuel industry. It has developed from almost non-existent in 1980 to a significant contributor to our transportation fuel today.<br />
</i><i><br /></i><i>Because of the success of America’s biofuel producers, renewable fuels now account for ten percent of our nation’s transportation fuel supply. </i> </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i>Homegrown biofuels are extending our fuel supply and lowering prices at the pump for consumers. </i></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i> Biofuels are reducing our dependence on finite fossil fuels. They keep more money at home rather than sending it to Persian Gulf countries that may wish to do us harm. </i><i><br /></i><i> And, it’s primarily due to the success of the Renewable Fuel Standard."</i></blockquote>

<br />
After laying out the facts amid the false claims of the poultry industry, the authors concludes:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i>The facts presented by the poultry and livestock industry simply don’t add up. The only sensible conclusion is that they want to turn back a successful policy so that they can profit from cheap feed paid for in part by the American taxpayer. The arguments of the livestock industry are irresponsible and unfounded. They do not provide a sound rationale to support repeal or modification of the Renewable Fuel Standard. </i></blockquote>
