Happy Oil Dependence Day

United States Independence Day July Fourth FlagAs we celebrate and honor America's independence today on July 4th, it's hard not to mourn our nation's continued dependence upon oil, especially foreign oil.

Billions of dollars of our country's wealth is being transferred to foreign governments who own foreign oil companies---many of which despise the values we celebrate today.

So how much foreign oil do we buy? In the first 4 months of 2008, the US imported over 1.57 billion barrels of oil. And almost half of that came from OPEC countries. As the price of oil continues to climb reaching new levels--first breaking the $100 a barrel mark, then $110, $115, $125 and now $145, each barrel bought from abroad really buys us continued dependence upon foreign governments.

Happy Birthday America.

The hard-working folks at the Illinois Corn Network have a new video on America's love affair with oil, "Anti Dependence Day". With special guests All-American Heroes Abraham Lincoln, Uncle Sam, Captain CORNelius battling against super-villain Big Oil.
